Perfection is a marketing mood. Adherence is a calendar. The people who keep results are rarely the ones who never eat bread; they are the ones who return to the plan the same day, not next Monday.
Macrovelo is built around that idea. Keto, Mediterranean, a balanced deficit — the goal is a plan built around your life, not a purity test.
All-or-nothing is a diet, not a personality flaw
A "blown" day often looks like this: lunch ran long, you ate the sandwich, you decide the week is ruined, dinner becomes a second event. The sandwich was maybe 400 extra calories. The story you told about it was the rest of the day.
Useful rule: the next meal is still on the plan. Not a cleanse, not a punishment workout, not a 48-hour fast you invented at 4 p.m.
What to protect when the week gets messy
If you can only keep three things, keep these:
- Protein at most meals. It is the boring lever that still works when recipes slide.
- A written dinner. Even a repeat. Decision fatigue is how takeout wins.
- The workouts you can still do. A 20-minute session counts. Skipping "because the diet wasn't perfect" does not.
Drop the garnish: homemade sauces, new snacks, extra tracking fields. Come back to those when the week is calm.
Swap instead of restarting
Restarting every Monday trains you to quit on Thursday. If a meal does not fit, swap it. If you ate out, log a directional estimate and move on. If you missed a workout, do the next one — do not "make up" six sessions on Saturday.
That is why Macrovelo puts swaps and a scanner in the same product as the weekly menu. The plan is supposed to absorb real life, including the diet you actually chose rather than the one a forum prefers.
A note on honesty vs. cruelty
Logging is useful. Shame is not. If tracking makes you anxious or you have a history of disordered eating, loosen the system: plate method, step goal, two cooked dinners. Adherence includes protecting your head.
What "good enough" looks like over 12 weeks
- Most dinners came from the plan or a planned swap.
- Most weeks included some training.
- Body weight or measurements moved in the intended direction on average, not every morning.
- You can still name foods you enjoy.
That is a successful plan. Perfect weeks are a side effect of an easy week, not the standard.
If you want a menu that expects swaps rather than sainthood, take the quiz. You will get meals, workouts, logging, and a diet pattern that can survive an ordinary month.
